What is the Trace ID?

Every error page shows a Trace ID at the bottom. It lets the team find exactly your request. Here is how to find and copy it.

· 1 min read

At the bottom of every error page and check page you'll see "Trace ID" followed by an identifier, for example:

NV-01M60A3K7Q-4F2D-9XRB-TP6E-KM3W

What it's for

The Trace ID belongs to exactly one request: the one you just saw. With it, the team can look up in the log when the request arrived, which page it was for and why the proxy answered the way it did. Without it, finding your request takes a long search; with it, it takes seconds.

The Trace ID contains no passwords and no personal content. It's safe to pass on.

How to copy it

  • Double-click or triple-click the identifier to select all of it.
  • Copy it with Ctrl+C (Mac: Cmd+C).
  • On a phone, press and hold the identifier and choose "Copy".

A screenshot of the whole page works just as well. It also shows the time and the error code.

No Trace ID on the page?

The page "This site is not reachable right now" has no Trace ID. It appears when an inner part of the proxy isn't answering. In that case, give the time and the address you tried to open.
